Register as an attending or non-attending student (version A)

Registration for the academic year 2020-2021 starts on 1 May 2020.

This page is intended for you if, in the admissions process in spring 2020, you received

  • The right to pursue a bachelor’s or master’s degree (or both) in Finnish or Swedish
  • The right to pursue a master’s degree or a bachelor’s and master’s degree in English, and you are not liable to pay a tuition fee

Every student pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree at the University of Helsinki must register as an attending or non-attending student for each academic year.

  • You can register as an attending or non-attending student for your first academic year after you have accepted the place offered to you.
  • If you were accepted conditionally, you can register as an attending or non-attending student only after you have fulfilled the conditions required for acceptance.
  • You will lose your place if you do not register as an attending or non-attending student by 31 August 2020.
  • If you were accepted conditionally, you can register as an attending or non-attending student only after you have fulfilled the conditions required for acceptance.

If you have not been offered a place this year, but received the right to complete a degree in or prior to 2019, please follow the instructions available at Instructions for Students.

New students must not only confirm that they accept the place offered to them, but also register as attending or non-attending students. You will lose your right to study if you fail to register for attendance or non-attendance by 31 August 2020.

We strongly advise you to register as soon as possible. Registration is crucial because the University cannot issue any official certification of your studies before you have registered.

  • After registering, you can activate your account for IT services and apply for a student card.

If you have previously studied at the University of Helsinki, but received a new right to complete a bachelor’s or master’s degree (or both) at the University through the admissions process this spring, please follow the instructions on this page for registering your new right to study.

If you have already registered as an attending or non-attending student for the academic year 2020–2021 for a previous right to study, please contact the admissions services.

Information on your new right to study will be entered into the student records only if you follow the instructions on this page. However, if you have already paid the membership fee of the Student Union, you do not have to pay it again.

We recommend that you register for attendance electronically via the My Studyinfo feature on the studyinfo.fi website. Please go to My Studyinfo -> My applications -> Register for attendance.

  • You can use the service if you have a Finnish personal identity number and access codes for a Finnish online bank, a Finnish mobile signature or a Finnish electronic ID card.  When you are logged in, please click on My applications and then Registration.
