10.05 - 10.35: Talk by Silvia Gaiani, Senior Researcher, Ruralia Institute University of Helsinki
Silvia Gaiani, leader of the NKJ Network, will share insights on the collaborative work where the main aim is to develop a theoretical framework for building a database on Nordic-Baltic sustainable food systems.
10.35 - 11.05: Talk by Rasmus Mikkelsen, head of Democracy X, PhD in bioethics
Rasmus B. Mikkelsen will explore the ethical challenges in selecting sustainability indicators for projects like the Nordic-Baltic sustainable food systems database. Beginning with the Brundtland definition of sustainability, he will discuss how values always underpin all chosen indicators, whether economic, social, or environmental, and highlight how every decision in the selection process involves value-based choices, including the critical distinction between relative and absolute sustainability.
Rasmus B. Mikkelsen is head of the food transition programme at the non-profit foundation Democracy x, which is on a mission to create a citizen and stakeholder led transition to a green and sustainable food system.

The interactive group discussion will focus on the different indicators and their role in the systematic transformation towards sustainability in the food systems.
