Ruralia's Bachelor's and Master's courses are based on multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary rural research and applying it in the work life. They build competence to understand the relationship between rural and urban areas and the impacts of the sustainability transition on, for example, the food system and local communities. A particular focus is on the transformation of rural areas and how to influence their development. The courses explore various tools and methods for rural development.

Ruralia actively participates in the doctoral education at the University of Helsinki. A doctoral dissertation related to rural research can be conducted at Ruralia either as part of a research project or with a personal grant. Doctoral studies takes place in the university of Helsinki's doctoral programs, and our staff serve as supervisors in several different doctoral programs, the most important of which you can explore through the links below.

At Ruralia, you can enhance and update your skills in various ways. We offer education related to our research and development projects on current topics for different target groups. Our teaching combines researched knowledge and the needs of the worklife. The duration and scope of our education offerings range from individual seminars and workshops to courses and longer study modules. Our continuous learning offerings are complemented by the studies of the University of Helsinki's Open University and MOOC online courses.
