Two groundbreaking publications in 2024

Two major articles hatched out in 2024!

In 2024 alone, we have published 6 peer reviewed articles, along with many others currently at the revision, submission or pre-print stage.

Of these, we are most proud to highlight

“Intra-host Genomic Diversity and Integration Landscape of Human Tissue-Resident DNA Virome" (Pyöriä et al., Nucleic Acids Research, gkae871,October 2024) and  “Reactivation of a Transplant Recipient’s Inherited Human Herpesvirus 6 and Implications to the Graft" (Hannolainen et al., JID, jiae268, May 2024
The first, explores the intricate dynamics of persistent DNA viruses across multiple human tissues, providing novel insights into their genetic stability and integration patterns. We revealed the conserved nature of viral persistent genomes and potential integration events, even in healthy individuals, challenging existing paradigms about viral dynamics and mechanisms of persistence.

In the second study, we demonstrated the reactivation of a host's inherited HHV-6 in solid organ transplantation. Through a comprehensive multi-modal analysis, we showed the pathological role of this inherited virus  and underscores the importance of monitoring the host virome in transplant medicine. This article was released together with an editorial, highlighting our methodological approach (J Infect Dis. 2024 May 21:jiae269 )
