Matti Kilpiö

Matti Kilpiö received his academic education at the University of Helsinki.

He defended his PhD thesis, supervised by Tauno F. Mustanoja and Matti Rissanen, in 1989. He has been attached to the Department of English (after 2010 the Department of Modern Languages) since 1969. At present, he is docent in English Philology. His major research interests lie in the corpus-based study of variation and change in English, with special emphasis on Old English topics including syntax, lexicography and manuscript studies. In addition to being an active member of the EETACS project, Kilpiö is one of the contributors to the Dictionary of Old English and reviews studies on Old English syntax for the Year's Work in Old English Studies (YWOES).

Research interests

Variation and change in English, in particular Old English topics including syntax, lexicography and manuscript studies (the last-mentioned within the framework of the EETACS project, in which I am an active participant).

Other international projects: I am a distant editor of the Dictionary of Old English (DOE) and review studies on Old English syntax on a yearly basis for Year’s Work in Old English Studies (YWOES).
