Tumor Progression and Metastasis

The Laakkonen Lab

Our laboratory is focusing on identification of metastasis and tumor cell invasion-associated molecules, by using advanced molecular biology and the phage display technology. We are also developing outstanding cellular and pre-clinical models of the disease, using patient-derived tumor cells from brain metastatic lesions, primary brain cancers or peripheral neoplasms such as breast, lungs or melanoma tumors.

Our scientific activity

The Laakkonen Lab is focusing on different research fields such as the dissection of the tumorigenesis mechanisms, the identification of new molecular targets and screening of novel targeting peptides. All the projects are articulated by two main axis: metastatic lesions of the central nervous system and de novo brain tumors.
