Structural Biology of Protein Interactions

Kajander Lab

Our research focuses on studies on the molecular structure and mechanism of proteins, recently mostly on the endoplasmic reticulum proteins involved in cellular stress signalling, including in particular the cerebral dopamine neurotrophic factor (CDNF) and mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor (MANF) interactions with chaperones and stress signalling sensor proteins. Other research topics include molecular characterization of complement proteins and their complexes with other proteins in regulation of neuronal synaptic loss in Alzheimer's disease, and structural characterization of synaptic adhesion proteins, and how they shape the connections and regulate synaptic transmission.  We also collaborate on various structural biology projects with local bioscience research groups with interest in structural studies in particular through the protein crystallography core facility.
