ANEMAL – Anaesthesiology and alleviation of pain in various species

Our research focuses on the clinical effects of anesthetics and analgesics, with the aim of improving the safety and effectiveness of anesthesia and pain management in various animal species. Our group's areas of special interest are cardiovascular effects during anesthesia, as well as intra- and postoperative pain management in animals.

The research group is led by Kati Salla, Docent in Veterinary Anesthesiology, whose doctoral dissertation examined the effects of vatinoxan, a peripheral α2-antagonist, on the cardiovascular function of sedated and anesthetized dogs. One of our research group members, PhD Ira Kallio-Kujala, also examined the effects of vatinoxan on the cardiovascular function of sedated dogs in her thesis.

The clinical parts of our research are carried out at the University Veterinary Hospital, where we are supported by competent staff and high-quality equipment. We also collaborate extensively with disciplines such as pharmacology and small animal surgery. Furthermore, we participate in international collaborative projects.
