The One Health Pathogenomics Group at the University of Helsinki, led by Adjunct Professor (Docent) Ravi Kant, brings together postdoctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, master’s students, and collaborators to study the genomics of emerging and re-emerging pathogens.
Our research focuses on pathogen evolution, host–pathogen interactions, and zoonotic spillover events, combining cutting-edge sequencing with the development of novel bioinformatics tools for metagenomic data analysis and pathogen detection. This integrated approach enables comprehensive investigation of the pathobiome—encompassing viruses, bacteria, and parasites—and provides new insights into the mechanisms driving disease emergence. By applying a One Health perspective, we address the interconnected human, animal, and environmental dimensions of infectious threats.
The group works in close collaboration with the Emerging Infections Research group and the Viral Zoonoses Research Unit, strengthening our capacity to deliver impactful knowledge and enhance global preparedness for future outbreaks.
