Dr Shahnaj Begum’s AGE-Immigrant project, funded by Finnish Academy, sets out to ascertain what non-European Asian and African older immigrants in Finland consider the key components of an age-friendly environment (AFE). The project will examine established characteristics of AFEs and analyse the concept of an age friendly environment in the light of intersectionality. The empirical component of the research encompasses narratives elicited in interviews of informants from 5 cities of Finland representing the target population and analyses of policy documents. The insights gained will suggest improvements to create age friendly environments better serving the needs of older immigrants.
