MeMI’s inauguration on 12 May 2024

Cross-disciplinary collaboration was encouraged at MeMI's kick-off

The event was opened by Prof. Sari Lindblom, Rector of UH, who emphasized the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration in her speech. A demonstration of this was immediately provided: Prof. Visa Immonen (Bergen) delivered a keynote titled “The Networks of Narrativity and Materiality: The Sarcophagus of St. Henry as Part of Ecclesiastical Space”, assessing the evidence from multiple methodological perspectives.

Various opportunities, both within and without academia, were identified

After a lively discussion, a plenary discussion about MeMI’s vision and future actions was held. Teaching, student activities, research gatherings, and funding emerged as the most pressing topics.

Several comments emphasized multi-disciplinarity and collaboration in teaching and research across departmental boundaries. The participants proposed various ideas about communal activities, such as funding workshops, reading groups, excursions, and other informal gatherings. As for external parties to collaborate with, potential partners were recognized, such as museums and parishes.

Information about upcoming activities will be provided at the beginning of the next academic year.
