Tvärminne Zoological Station

Tvärminne Zoological Station is the oldest (founded 1902) and largest infrastructure for coastal marine research in the Baltic Sea and the flagship for Baltic Sea science, not only at the University of Helsinki, but also nationally.

Over the years TZS has contributed to the training of hundreds of Baltic Sea scientists and ecologists active in academia and experts in government agencies. Fundamental research on the structure and function of the Baltic Sea ecosystem, performed at the station, has had a major societal impact through its contribution to policies and management of the marine environment. The station has achieved an iconic status in society, which is reflected in widespread support and engagement from the public.

More information about the station is available on Tvärminne Zoological Station's webpage and you can also find Tvärminne Zoological Station on Facebook.
