Jun/23: Grant from the Research Council of Finland
Our group was awarded a grant from the Research Council of Finland (formerly known as the Academy of Finland) to work on Resource-wise and trustworthy Bayesian machine learning, a two-team consortium with Antti Honkela's group at the University of Helsinki.

Sep/22: Lecture at BAMB! 2022
Luigi will be giving a lecture on approximate Bayesian inference methods at the BAMB! 2022 summer school for advanced modeling of behavior, to be held 1-8 September 2022 in Barcelona, Spain. Looking forward to it!
July/22: Daolang joins the lab
Daolang Huang is a new FCAI-funded PhD researcher who will be working in both Sami Kaski's group at Aalto University and with our group, having Luigi as his second supervisor. Welcome!
13-17/Jun/22: ProbAI 2022
Luigi as general chair and members of the lab (Grégoire, Chengkun, Bobby) as members of the executive team, TAs and contributors were heavily involved in the organization of the 3rd Nordic Probabilistic AI summer school (ProbAI) held at the University of Helsinki. A lot of work from everyone involved, but glad to say that it was a resounding success!
16/May/22: Oral (long presentation) at ICML 2022
The paper "Tackling covariate shift with node-based Bayesian neural networks", a collaboration between our group and Trung Trinh, Samuel Kaski and Markus Heinonen from Aalto University (Finland) has been accepted as a long presentation (top 2% papers) at the 39th International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML 2022).
Feb/22: The organization of ProbAI 2022 Helsinki picks up
Luigi has joined the Team of Directors of ProbAI as a General Chair for the Nordic Probabilistic AI School to be held in Helsinki on 13-17 June 2022. Grégoire and Chengkun from our group are also helping with the organization. Plenty of activities ahead!
18/Jan/22: Paper accepted at AISTATS 2022
Our paper "Parallel MCMC Without Embarrassing Failures", a collaboration with Daniel Augusto de Souza (UCL, UK), Diego Mesquita (Aalto University, Finland) and Samuel Kaski (Aalto University, Finland, and University of Manchester, UK) has been accepted at the 25th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Statistics (AISTATS).
15/Aug/21: Paper published in Journal of Vision
Our paper "Uncertainty is maintained and used in working memory", a collaboration with Aspen Yoo (University of California, Berkeley) and Wei Ji Ma (Center for Neural Science & Department of Psychology, NYU) has been published in the Journal of Vision.
12/May/21: International Brain Laboratory career panel
Luigi participated at the IBL career panel to provide advice and discuss the behind-the-scenes with early-career researchers.

We had two papers presented at the main conference at NeurIPS 2020. Luigi presented Variational Bayesian Monte Carlo with Noisy Likelihoods, while our collaborator Nisheet presented Dynamic allocation of limited memory resources in reinforcement learning.

Luigi will talk about machine intelligence under resource constraints at a webinar organized by the FCAI Special Interest Group (SIG) on Edge AI.

This week, two papers from our group were accepted for publication in PLoS Computational Biology!
The first paper, "The Role of Sensory Uncertainty in Simple Contour Integration" is a collaboration with Yanli Zhou (Center for Data Science, NYU) and Wei Ji Ma (Center for Neural Science & Department of Psychology, NYU). The second paper, "Unbiased and Efficient Log-Likelihood Estimation with Inverse Binomial Sampling" is a collaboration with Bas van Opheusden (Department of Psychology, Princeton University) and Wei Ji again.
