The Hematological Genetics lab is led by Drs Outi Kilpivaara (geneticist) and Ulla Wartiovaara-Kautto (clinical hematologist). Our research stems from the intriguing curiosity towards mechanisms of failing hematopoiesis leading to peripheral blood cell deficiencies and ultimately blood cancers. We especially focus on hereditary factors and their role in these processes. Together with our close contacts with the hematology clinic in HUS and through our collaborators in Finland and globally we aim at proficient translation of the scientific discoveries to the benefit of patients.
