Functional Cancer Genomics

Vanharanta lab

How mutations cause cancer in a tissue-specific manner remains a central open question in cancer biology with profound clinical implications. Our team uses a comprehensive experimental approach that combines cancer models, functional genomics and the analysis of human patient data to identify tissues-specific mechanisms of cancer development and progression towards lethal metastatic disease. The long-term goal of our research is to find new mechanism-based approaches for targeted cancer therapy.

We are at the Translational Cancer Medicine Program in the Faculty of Medicine Research Programs Unit.

The team has recently relocated to Helsinki from the University of Cambridge and we are looking for new members. Please email Sakari (sakari.vanharanta@helsinki.fi) if you would like to discuss opportunities!
