Digital Death: Transforming History, Rituals and Afterlife

The project starts on the 1st of September 2022 and ends on the 31st of December 2024. The consortium addresses the cultural and social transformation of human death in contemporary society as it is characterised by digital saturation of the current collective social and cultural existence.

DiDe has four principal investigators. The disciplinary expertise of the PIs includes study of media and communications, sociology of death, anthropology of death, study of religions and theology, philosophy and history of death. The PIs represent diverse European and academic geographies and cultures including Northern European (consortium leader, Associate Professor Johanna Sumiala/University of Helsinki, Finland) and Associate Professor Dorthe Refslund Christensen/Aarhus University, Denmark), Western European (Professor Douglas Davies, Durham University, UK) and Eastern European (Assistant Professor Adela Toplean/University of Bucharest/Romania).
