One of my main interests concerns the polysemy of light verbs in general, and particularly the verbs expressing transfer and the wide range of metaphorical meanings associated to them.  I have focused on the comparison between Italian and Finnish verbs seeking to evaluate possibilities of a cognitive linguistic-based analysis to be applied to contrastive purposes of Italian light verbs, e.g. dare, mettere, portare, prendere, togliere and their Finnish counterparts.

I am also interested in examining the effectiveness of an explanatory approach based on cognitive linguistics (theories of embodiment, image schemas, force dynamics) in order to teach the different metaphorical extensions of the above mentioned verbs and other verb constructions to Finnish-speaking students.
