The 75th FórumAT, Ergonomia da Atividade and School of Public Health, University of São Paulo welcome Emeritus Professor Yrjö Engeström from University of Helsinki and Professor Annalisa Sannino, from Tampere University, Finland, to discuss the contribution of cultural-historical activity theory and formative interventions in the context of contemporary work .

The world of work has become more and more complex, sometimes due to occupational diseases and work accidents, which threaten workers and society. One way to face such a challenging scenario is with formative interventions such as the Change Laboratory method. Based on Cultural Historical Activity Theory originally initiated by Vygostky and his colleagues, the theory has been evolving throughout four generations. Specifically the 4th Generation of Activity Theory aims at responding to the growing complexity in networks of human activities, the emergence of global threats such as climate change, pandemics, environmental and societal crises including occupational diseases and work accidents.
