Cell-cell communication is essential for the formation of complex multicellular structures and guidance of migrating cells. Lymphatic system is composed of treelike lymphatic vessel networks, lymph nodes and associated migratory immune cells. The hierarchical structure of the lymphatic system and the dynamic interactions between immune cells and lymphatic endothelium offer an excellent model system to investigate cell-cell interactions in construction of complex multicellular structures and guidance of migrating cells. Our research group aims at identification of cellular mechanisms, which could be used to enhance adaptive immune response in inflammation-associated disease conditions via controlled expansion of lymphatic capillary networks and enhanced antigen presenting dendritic cell trafficking.
