Softis - Soft Tissue Surgery

The Softis soft tissue surgery research group focuses on research of surgically treated soft tissue diseases in dogs.

The group is currently conducting doctoral dissertation research, research projects of specializing veterinarians, and supervision of licentiate theses.

The research is conducted at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the University of Helsinki, whose modern facilities, high-quality equipment and instruments, and skilled staff provide an excellent environment for research. The research is carried out in close collaboration with researchers from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine's departments of anesthesiology, diagnostic imaging, clinical research laboratory, and pathology.

The group has completed doctoral dissertations on the prevalence of chronic otitis in Finnish American Cocker Spaniels in autumn 2021, on the etiology and surgical treatment of perineal hernia in male dogs in summer 2024, and on CT-imaging findings of perineal hernia in autumn 2024.
