An ethical review of the research is conducted prior to launching a study.

Ethics reviews protect the legal rights of both study subjects and researchers. Many research funding agencies and publishers require that an ethical review be conducted.

Research ethics committees

The University of Helsinki has four committees that carry out ethics reviews:

Research Ethics Committee in the Humanities and Social and Behavioural Sciences
Research Ethics Committee on Anima l Research
Research Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Medicine
Research Ethics Committee in the Natural, Biological and Environmental Sciences and Engineering
