Restaurant

The station's restaurant serves sustainably and responsibly produced food from ingredients in season.

At Tvärminne Zoologial Station you can enjoy a year-round treat by the sea. The station's restaurant serves sustainably and responsibly produced food made from ingredients in season. You can enjoy nutritious breakfasts, delicious lunches, snacks and coffee and, of course, delicacies for special occasions.

Lunch is served at the station every weekday. Two main course options are available at lunch, one of which is always a responsible vegetarian option. Once a week, the station has a vegetarian day, when we serve climate-friendly vegetarian food such as local tofu or delicious seitan.

Our lunch is open for everybody to enjoy. As part of our responsible approach we try to avoid waste, so please let us know in advance if you are planning to stop by for lunch!

Special treats for groups

Can we prepare a special treat for your group? Would a climate-wise fish soup or a charcoal vegan buffet be a natural choice for you?  Visiting groups can order a meeting catering according to their own wishes or even a complete banquet.
Our kitchen favourites include a locally baked seeded crisp bread with various spreads and a ginger shot or smoothie to refresh your meeting day. It's also easy to order evening meals for a dinner party at the sauna on demand!

Restaurant by the sea

The station restaurant is located on the ground floor of the main building. The restaurant's unique atmosphere is created by a stunning view of the sea. The dining room seats 70 people and can be divided into two smaller sections if required.

How about a daytime coffee on the research vessel Augusta or a barbecue on the sunny terrace of the pavilion. You can also organise an evening party in the sauna and grill delicious skewers at the same time.

Did you know that our kitchen makes delicious bread? A special treat for your group to take home?

Responsible food service

Tvärminne has participated in a development programme called Responsible Food Service, in which ten different food service operators around Finland developed their operations to become more sustainable and low-carbon. The development programme created new approaches to promote a sustainable food system and reduce emissions from the consumption of professional kitchens.

The station's kitchen uses domestic ingredients as much as possible, including meat, potatoes, eggs, flour, milk and dairy products. Every year the proportion of organic products is increasing, we are part of the Steps to Organic programme. We only use fair trade organic coffee and tea.

The restaurant at Tvärminne restaurant is run by our catering manager Saara Silen in collaboration with Nina Ekblad and Tiina Bolbol.

Let us make you an offer!
