Foundations on Scientific Diving
This program is at entry level for a non-diver to begin diving, covering the basic fundamentals of diving aimed for scientific work underwater. The program is broken into two parts of 1 week each. Successful completion of this program allows a diver to enter the Occupational Scientific Diver program directly.
Courses in 2026:
- April 20th – May 3rd
- August 10th – 23th
Course Prerequisites:
- Minimum 18 years old
- Own drysuit and suitable undergarments for dives in 10degC water
- Degree (or enrolled) in a relevant field or involvement in scientific organisation
Additional Information:
This course can be designed to start diving and work up to entering the Occupational Scientific Diver (OSD) Course, or to fine tune existing dive techniques to match the required levels of dive skills in the OSD program.
The Onni Talas Foundation is kindly offering scholarships for students. These scholarships are intended for students enrolled at any Finnish University to gain entry level dive training with the intention of applying it in scientific diving.
