Ars Bioarctica residency programme

Established in 2008, the Finnish Bioart Society organises exhibitions, events and residency periods focused on biology, ecology and the life sciences. The society’s office and exhibition and work spaces are located in Kalasatama, Helsinki.

Ars Bioarctica is an artist residency programme coordinated by the Bioart Society, which enables dozens of artists to visit the Kilpisjärvi wilderness every year. With applications accepted once a year, the programme offers two to four-week working periods at Kilpisjärvi Biological Station to artists representing different art forms. At the biennial Field_Notes field laboratory, artists and researchers work together in Kilpisjärvi for a week, examining multidisciplinary approaches to environmental questions.
