The Institute building will be entirely out of use from September 2025 until early summer 2026. Impivaara will also be closed until spring 2026.
Hyytiälä’s office services can be found in the bakery room of the Old Dining Hall. Some other staff members, including the station director, will also work from the Old Dining Hall during the
renovation. Most of the SMEAR technical team will operate from Kaislaranta.
Laboratory operations have been distributed across the basement of the new building, the machine hall, and temporary facilities.
Visitors are kindly asked to park their cars in the main parking area. Occasionally, the main lot may be full, in which case alternative parking can be found near the lakeside or at the machine hall. The construction site is fenced off. Movement outside the fences is unrestricted, but construction traffic should be taken into account.
Pedestrian access to the old courtyard is arranged via the front of the Institute; if this route is temporarily closed, access is possible via the football field or a detour.
Vehicle access to the old courtyard is arranged via the lakeside road.
