Living Lab Indoor Environmental Monitoring at Hyytiälä

The Hyytiälä Living Lab research also includes continuous monitoring of indoor conditions. Monitoring helps to determine how the conditions inside buildings affect people's well-being and comfort, and on the other hand, the sustainability of buildings.

Monitoring is conducted through the building automation system and researchers' own measurements, focusing on the multifunctional spaces of the dining building, the double rooms in Building B, and rooms 3, 8, and 12 in Impivaara building. Measurements from all spaces provide information on basic conditions (temperature, humidity, CO2, ventilation), and the sensors in the accommodation rooms of Building B and Impivaara also measure particle and VOC concentrations, light intensity, sound pressure levels, and motion detection. The indoor environmental monitoring does not involve measurements containing personal information, nor are the measurements linked to the guests' data. All individual-related studies are conducted in a manner that ensures participants are aware and have given their consent. Accommodation buildings C and D are not included in the Living Lab's indoor monitoring.

can be inspected using a computer connected to the internal network of the University of Helsinki. The environmental data from the multifunctional spaces is displayed in real-time, while the information from the accommodation rooms is delayed by seven days.
