The aim of the project Language-supported Knowledge Pathways for Immigrants in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area is to support underrepresented groups’ access to higher education. The project also aims to improve the ability of educational organisations to offer Finnish language education integrated with subject studies. In addition, we promote language awareness and diversity in both higher education institutions and workplaces.
The project includes five work packages: 1. teacher in early childhood education, 2. early childhood education social services , 3. business administration, 4. technology sector, and 5. the development of bilingual education, as well as creating a national cooperation model between teachers and different education levels. We also wish to share experiences of SIMHE tutoring and SIMHE higher education institutions to other higher education institutions.
The University of Helsinki, Aalto University and Metropolia University of Applied Sciences are working closely with the municipalities of Espoo, Helsinki and Vantaa to create educational paths for the labour shortage sectors. The results can also be utilised nationally at the end of the project.
The project started on 1 January 2025 and will last until 30 June 2027.
