Research

These days, the research carried out in the meadows of the Åland Islands is not limited to the annual monitoring of fluctuations in population size.

Relevant research questions can be addressed in greater depth by conducting laboratory and field experiments at the Viikki Campus and at the Lammi Biological Station, where the effects of species’ genetic factors on population variation are investigated, among other things. The mapping of the Glanville fritillary genome has opened up new possibilities for understanding this variation. Studying the disease community of ribwort plantain helps researchers to understand the ecology and evolution of diseases.
