Typical budget of the autumn survey

The largest expense in the surveys are the wages of the surveyors. The number of surveyors has varied from year to year, depending on whether samples were collected and whether smaller islands have also been visited in addition to the main island. This estimate assumes 18 surveyor pairs. Because each pair travels by car, and the cars are owned by the surveyors or their family members, mileage compensation must be paid for their use. Nowadays, the surveyors are accommodated at Gästhem Jomala Gård and at the Nåtö Biological Station. Travelling to the Åland Islands is done by car ferry via Turku. Other costs include, for example, fuel expenses for the faculty’s vehicle and various material purchases.
