Professor Jean Helms Mills is a new International Reader at Soc&kom

Professor Jean Helms Mills from Saint Mary’s University in Canada will collaborate with the Swedish School of Social Science (Soc&kom) as an International Reader at the School from August 1 2017 to July 31 2020.

Jean Helms Mills is a professor at the Sobey School of Business at the Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Canada. Her research interests are in the areas of Critical Management Studies, Gender, Critical Sensemaking, Historiography, Intersectionality and the Sociology of Knowledge.

As an International Reader at Soc&kom she will visit the School for one two-week period of research and one two-week period of teaching every academic year. She will give the graduate level course “Work and organizational psychology: Power relations and intersectionality” in collaboration with university lecturer Beata Segercrantz.

Helms Mills’ research has been funded by The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), The Academy of Finland and Tekes (Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation). She is currently working on three major projects in both Canada and Finland that look at Intersectionality, Sociology of Knowledge and Workplace Wellbeing, respectively. 

Helms Mills is also a Senior Visiting Research Fellow at Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki and a docent at the University of Jyväskylä. In addition to teaching in Canada, she has taught in Finland, Georgia and Vietnam.
