Quantum technology in a nutshell

Quantum computers enable the development of novel means of tackling the greatest challenges facing humanity: problems related to climate change and energy, sustainable production and consumption, the design of new drugs and other aspects of healthcare as well as cybersecurity in quantum-encrypted data transfer and storage.

The University of Helsinki has decades of experience in research, education and commercialisation activities associated with quantum science and technology, making us particularly well-equipped to forecast the pace of technological progress. To this end, we have coordinated collaboration with experts in the field and pooled research resources. In the coming years, the growth and development of the field will require a significant increase in the number of specifically educated employees. For this purpose, increasingly diverse educational offerings have been developed at the University.

Finnish research and development in quantum technology is internationally recognised. Key areas of expertise include quantum information, new quantum materials as well as various quantum devices and sensors that make extremely sensitive measurement and detection possible.
