The cyclotron beam is on!

The 20-year-old IBA Cyclone 10/5 cyclotron was completely upgraded.

A major update of our 20-year-old IBA Cyclone 10/5 cyclotron was completed in February 18th, 2019. The cyclotron is used for production of short living positron emitting radionuclides such as fluorine-18 and carbon-11 for our research projects and research services. The cyclotron has also an important task in training our radiochemistry students for production of radionuclides.

In the first part of the update, the coils of the cyclotron magnet were replaced.  The second part of the update involved installing new RF power supply and control system for the accelerator.  With these changes, we foresee at least another 20 years of successful cyclotron operation.
