Prof. Sasu Tarkoma will attend the discussion panel "Next-Gen Networks Are GenAI Networks" at 6GSymposium, to take place on 9 -11 April 2024, Levi, Finland

Next-Gen Networks Are GenAI Networks

Large Language Models (LLMs) are advanced AI systems trained on vast datasets to understand, generate, and interact with human language. Their capabilities extend beyond mere text generation; they excel in tasks like translation, summarization, and question answering, offering significant utility in areas ranging from natural language processing to complex problem-solving. Moreover, Generative AI (GenAI) in general encompasses a broad range of models capable of creating diverse content, including images, audio, and video, by learning from vast datasets to mimic and innovate within various modalities beyond text.

For wireless networks, GenAI models can enhance wireless networks by enabling advanced predictive maintenance, identifying potential issues and optimizing network performance. Additionally, they can facilitate the efficient management of network resources through automated, intelligent decision-making and streamlined communication protocols in multi-vendor environments. This session focuses on the use of GenAI models for the benefit of 6G wireless networks.

The 2nd International Workshop on Networked AI Systems (NetAISys), colocated with MobiSys 2024, aims to bring together leading experts in the field to explore the latest advancements and challenges in the integration of AI and networking technologies. Such integration is driving the development of intelligent and autonomous systems that are capable of making decisions and performing tasks in real-time. The workshop will provide a platform for the presentation and discussion of cutting-edge research, the demonstration of innovative networked AI systems and applications, and the exchange of ideas, experiences, and case studies. The significance of this workshop to the ACM MobiSys community lies in the growing reliance on AI systems that are connected to and operate within wireless networks. With AI/ML migrating to the network edge, there is an increasing demand for efficient and effective AI systems that play a crucial role in powering various intelligent and autonomous systems in dynamic network environments with varying network conditions. By bringing together researchers, practitioners, and industry professionals, we hope to create a collaborative environment and a one-of-kind and valuable opportunity to delve into the challenges and latest advancements presented by networked AI systems and applications. We look forward to sharing our experience and insights with the ACM MobiSys community.

The 2nd International Workshop on Advances in Environmental Sensing Systems for Smart Cities (EnvSys 2024)  will take place in conjunction with ACM MobiSys 2024 on 7th June, in Tokyo, Japan. The workshop is planned to provide insightful discussions, networking opportunities, and collaborative endeavors. The scope of the workshop contributes to the field of environmental monitoring using emerging communication technologies such as 5G/6G data communication, fog/edge/cloud computing, data fusion, big data analytics, and data science methods such as data mining and machine learning for processing and analyzing environmental data.

We invite submission of articles (6 pages) and extended abstracts (2 pages) focusing on, but not limited to, the following themes:

  • Distributed sensing, inference and wireless computation for environmental monitoring
  • Edge/Fog/Cloud Intelligence and semantic communications for environmental systems
  • Artificial intelligence for optimizing environment sensing systems
  • Data sciences and data mining for environmental data analytics
  • Large Language models (LLM) for environmental monitoring systems
  • Air, water, and soil pollution sensing systems and their applications
  • Extreme weather monitoring and disaster management sensing systems
  • Unmanned aerial and underwater vehicles for environmental sensing scenarios
  • People flow analytics in the built environment
  • IoT for smart buildings and green environments
  • IoT solutions and sensing systems for waste management
