Food processing

Up-to-date processing technologies including bioprocessing as green methods are provided to promote sustainable use of natural resources for food production. Specific emphasis will be given to solutions for plant-based dietary protein sources and other food ingredients to supplement animal-based products. It is the ambition to create technology driven innovations.
Services

Services are available by FOODNUTRI partners at different locations by VTT, Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke), University of Helsinki (UH), and University of Turku (UTU). Contract work by service only is available for food business operators and other interested parties. Independent use of equipment pending know-how is available at UH and UTU.

  • Fractionation: milling and air classification, separation techniques
  • Processing: extrusion, high-hydrostatic pressure devices
  • Pilot food processing units: bakery, dairy, meat, plant-based ingredients & foods
  • Bioprocessing: microbial and enzymatic modification (tech-sensory-nutrition), biotechnological ingredient & food production
  • Packaging: modified atmosphere packaging, barrier property analysis, and migration investigation
