Remote access to electronic resources

University students and staff can access online materials acquired by Helsinki University Library via remote access with an off-campus computer.

Remote access via the Library's search services

By logging in to your University user account in the Helka database, you can use the Helka search function to access all e-resources acquired by Helsinki University Library.

You can also search the Helka database without logging in. In this case, you will be asked to log in with your University user account to activate remote use when you open the materials.

If you have problems activating the remote access or some online material fails to function properly, contact the Library via e-library@helsinki.fi or the chat service on the library website.

Remote access through a VPN connection

The library’s e-resources can also be accessed with off-campus computers through a secure VPN connection between your computer and the University network. The VPN connection should be used especially in cases where the material cannot be accessed through the links in the library’s search services.

More detailed instructions on remote access services are available in the IT Centre’s online guide on connections from outside the University.
