Research data management
Data Support at the University of Helsinki provides services to the University community and HUS Helsinki University Hospital. Data Support organises training and workshops. Via the Data Support service, specialists in data management at the Helsinki University Library, IT Services, Central Archives, Research Affairs, Personnel Services, and Legal Affairs provide assistance to researchers in questions regarding data management.
The Research Data Services portal collects information on data management services at the University of Helsinki. In addition to the service listing in the portal, you can also use the wizard function to guide you to the service that suits your specific needs.
As part of University of Helsinki Data Support, Helsinki University Library offers training to researchers and students on implementing and planning data management.
- The RDM Basics course introduces the basics of research data management.
- Data Management Plan workshops focus on drawing up data management plans (DMPs). Workshops are organised especially in conjunction with Academy of Finland funding application calls.
DMPTuuli is a tool for creating a data management plan, and it will guide and provide instructions for researchers at various stages of drawing up the plan. The DMPTuuli workshops provide guidance in using this tool.

Helsinki University Library offers research guides to meet the various requirements of data management. The Making a Research Project Understandable guide goes through the basics of documenting your data.
The Think Open blog publishes information on matters related to digital research services and open science. The library contributes to the blog together with other parties at the University. OpenAIRE is engaged in building a body of services to promote open access to science across Europe. Helsinki University Library coordinates the OpenAIRE cooperation in Finland and provides information on the services.
The IT Centre of the University of Helsinki provides several services in support of research, such as data storage and distribution services as well as tailored IT solutions. CSC – IT Center for Science is a Finnish centre of expertise owned by the Finnish state and higher education institutions, providing high-quality services for research. The Open Science Coordination in Finland website collects the most current information on ongoing open science projects.
