Christmas season 2019-2020 in the Library

During the holiday season, Library has reduced opening hours, Campus libraries are partly closed and the books have long loan periods. The e-library is open 24/7 also at Christmas time!

Well Kaisa-talo cafeteria is closed on Fri 27.12.19, otherwise same opening hours as the Library. When the cafeteria is closed, use the library’s other entrances on Fabianinkatu and Kaisaniemenkatu (by the elevator from the floors K1 and 1).

Kaisa House Student Information’s Walk-in service is closed 23.12.19–6.1.20. Chat is open 30.–31.12.19 between 10 a.m. – 12. 

Learning Centre Aleksandria

  • Thu 5.12: Open 8 a.m. – 5:45 p.m.
  • Fri-Sun 6. – 8.12: Closed.
  • 16. – 22.12: Open Mon-Fri 8 a.m. – 7:45 p.m., Sat-Sun closed.

Students can use the Learning Centre outside opening hours with a magnetic key all holiday season. Only on 31 December the premises will be cleared out at 5.45 pm and the night use is not possible. On Wednesday, 1 January 2020, access with a magnetic key is possible again after 4 pm.

Services during holiday season

Loan periods

Loans and renewals will receive a due date on 9 January 2020 as follows:

  • 28 day loans starting on 23 November, 2019
  • 14 day loans (textbooks) starting on 7 December, 2019, and
  • 2 day loans starting on 19 December, 2019.

Keep in mind that the e-library is open 24/7 also during the holiday season!

Customer service

Main Library Kaisa House customer service at the 3rd floor  is open Mon-Fri 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. We try to answer e-mails during the following working day.

Returns

When the campus libraries are closed, you can return books to the Main Library. Outside the opening hours please use the return unit on Fabianinkatu. Books can be returned to the return boxes also in Viikki, Kumpula and Meilahti.

On the Kumpula Campus the overnight return box is located at Physicum’s main entrance (Gustaf Hällströmin katu 2a), next to the gray side door.

Next to the main doors of the Viikki Campus Library (Info Centre), there is a joint return box for the Campus Library and the Helsinki City Library in which you may return materials at any time of the day.

On the Meilahti Campus, please use the return box at the lobby in Haartmaninkatu 3. The building is open Mon-Fri 8 a.m. – 15 p.m.

HUPS - Books and articles onto your desk

The HUPS-service for Helsinki University staff is available all holiday season. Keep in mind that the e-library is also available 24/7.

Interlibrary loans

During the Postal Services strike, Helsinki University Library will exceptionally send articles as interlibrary loans only by email. After the strike, interlibrary loan service will operate normally.
