HSSH is looking for Doctoral Candidates to study datafication of society

The successful applicants will work four years in the research initiative Datafication of society and SSH research.

Helsinki Institute for Social Sciences and Humanities offers for 4-year fully funded positions for three Ph.D students. The successful applicants will join the research initiative Datafication of society and SSH research.

The research programme brings together a multidisciplinary community of scholar to tackle the emerging potentials and problems of datafication – the increasingly intensive collection and analysis of various forms of data and its implication to society and the social science and humanities.

The institute is looking for Ph.D. students who are in the beginning stages of the studies (1st year), with a prospect of working full time for the next 4 years. The duties of a doctoral students consist of working on his or her own doctoral thesis, completing other postgraduate studies requirements, teaching (up to 5% of the annual working time), and other tasks.

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in a field that is relevant to the research topic and have a high quality research proposal. Applicants should already have the right to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Helsinki. If the candidate does not already have the right by the start of the appointment, it must be applied for separately or apply for the right and obtain it within the probationary period of six months of their appointment.
