Borrow AV Equipment for Research Data Collection

You can borrow recording devices from the research equipment lending library located at the City Center Campus.

The City Center Campus of the University of Helsinki has a research equipment lending library, located at the Institute for Social Sciences and Humanities (HSSH), where you can find a wide range of equipment for recording picture and sound.

You can borrow, for example, sound recorders, video and still cameras, different kinds of microphones and additional equipment such as camera stands and small lights.

The library has just added several new equipment sets to its inventory. These sets are collected in camera bags and one set includes a 4k video camera, a lapel and an on-camera microphone, headphones, a LED light, a video grip, batteries and a camera stand. There are five sets like these in the library.

“Some of the equipment was received from a defunct research unit, but we have just build these sets of new equipment which are perfect for field work and easy to carry,” says Research Coordinator Mari Siiroinen, who is responsible for the library.

At the moment you can borrow equipment by contacting Siiroinen (mari.siiroinen@helsinki.fi). In the near future the plan is to have an online database, which will make the process easier.

“All Center Campus researchers can borrow the equipment, and they can also be lended to students working on their Master’s Theses, who have a recommendation from a supervisor,” Siiroinen says.

In the future the research equipment library plans to produce instructional videos, and host training sessions on utilizing the equipment.

The research equipment library is located at the HSSH Office at Vuorikatu 3, 2nd floor.
