Viral nucleic acids present in the samples are detected using real-time gene amplification methodology (PCR or reverse transcription-PCR). The results are given as qualitative (viral genome detected/not detected). Each assay has a detection limit, below which viruses cannot be detected with these assays.

VIRUS DETECTION FROM ENVIRONMENTAL SAMPLES

Detection of enteric viruses from environmental swabs in outbreak situations, for checking hygienic level in the premises etc. (especially norovirus, other enteric viruses, see list above)

VIRUS DETECTION FROM WATER SAMPLES

Viruses causing waterborne outbreaks (norovirus, HAV, other enteric viruses, see list above)

OTHER VIRUS ANALYSES

Virus detection from sewage, sludge and soil (norovirus, HAV other enteric viruses, see list above)
