The most common means to commercially exploit inventions include licensing, which means selling the user rights to an invention or research result, and setting up a company. The Faculty’s researchers have produced a number of significant innovations that have led to patents for cancer medicines, coatings of joint prosthesis and dental implants. These innovations have also resulted in several commercial products.

Among the spin-off companies born on the Meilahti Campus are Mobidiag and Medicel, to name a few.
