About Marko Virta
I study antibiotic resistance in various environments on a global scale including Asia and Africa. I teach different courses on biosciences for the students at University of Helsinki. I am director of Multidisciplinary Center of Excellence in Antimicrobial Resistance Research (FIMAR) and Doctoral Programme in Multidisciplinary Research in Renewable Natural Resources (RENEW).

About Johanna Muurinen
I work as a University Researcher at the Departments of Veterinary Biosciences (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) and Microbiology (Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry), and in the latter I also lead a research group of Microbial Archaeology and Agricultural Microbiology (MA’AM). We study the evolution of microbial communities in human-impacted environments since the late Nordic Stone Age to the present through (ancient) metagenomics and time-travelling microbes. My research largely combines microbial ecology, genomics, and One Health perspectives, with particular emphasis on antimicrobial resistance in agriculture.

About Emma Sheriff
I've been a passionate phage researcher for more than ten years and love sharing my knowledge with others, especially those new to the field. In my current work, I am investigating the impact of anti-phage defense systems on the efficacy of phage-based biocontrol methods. Previous research of mine has focused on omics-based investigation of phage-host interactions in Enterococcus and identification of novel anti-CRISPRs in staphylococcal phages.

About Nietos Hietanen
In my PhD, I study how bacteriophages affect plant growth-promotion of rhizosphere bacteria and community composition. I am interested in how interactions among individuals and species shape evolutionary trajectories. By contributing to our understanding on rhizosphere microbes, I aim to advance the development of sustainable plant production methods in agriculture.
