Kaius Sinnemäki

I am the Director of DIVSOL and a Professor of Quantitative and Comparative Linguistics at the Faculty of Arts. My main research areas are language typology, language variation and change, language contact and multilingualism, and language and religion. In my latest research, I have studied how the sociocultural context in which languages are learned and used may affect the way languages may change. In DIVSOL, I research particularly the complexities related to linguistic diversity, including typological approaches to multilingualism. 

Ilona Lindh

I work as a Research Coordinator at DIVSOL. My research field is non-fiction studies, and I am particularly interested in the rhetorical features of non-fictional texts, processes of writing and reading, and contemporary literary cultures.

Jussi Eronen

I am a Professor of Socio-ecological systems at the Faculty Biological and Environmental Sciences. My work focuses on transdisciplinary studies and on long-term development of socio-ecological systems and natural resource use. At University of Helsinki I lead the Past Present Sustainability Research Unit (PAES).

Patrik Floréen

I am a Senior University Lecturer in Computer Science, very much involved with the Finnish Center for Artificial Intelligence. My current research interests are in the ethical use of AI. 

Henrietta Grönlund

I am a Professor of Urban Theology at the Faculty of Theology. My research focuses on three intersecting streams: 1) religion and worldviews in urban space, 2) faith-based and value-based social work, and 3) civil society and civic engagement. I am particularly interested in the lived experiences of diversity in urban contexts, and the ways in which religions and worldviews, faith-based organizations, and civil society interact with urban space.

Markku Jahnukainen

I am a Professor of Special Education at the Faculty of Educational Sciences. My research and teaching is focused on 1) transitions and life-courses of individuals with diverse educational needs, and 2) comparative educational policy related to inclusive and special education.

Timo Kaartinen

I am a Professor of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the Faculty of Social Sciences. A core interest of my research is how people enact and think about social and linguistic boundaries and maintain relationships across temporal and spatial distance. Currently I explore minority languages and the diversity of livelihoods in Indonesia. 

Suvi Keskinen

I am Professor in Ethnic Relations at the Swedish School of Social Science. I also lead the work of The Centre for Research on Ethnic Relations and Nationalism (CEREN). My research focuses on questions of racism, antiracism, coloniality, Nordic welfare states and political mobilisation. I currently lead a project on temporalities, solidarities and social class in antiracist mobilisations and narratives.

Arto Klami

I am an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the Faculty of Science, and a member of the Finnish Center for Artiticial Intelligence and the ELLIS network. My research is on statistical machine learning, with emphasis on machine learning and AI for supporting scientific research across disciplines. I lead the AI Virtual Lab activities that span the strategic profiling action.

Lena Näre

I am a Professor of Sociology and a migration scholar at the Faculty of Social Sciences. My research focuses on various cross-border mobilities, transnationalism, ageing, care, work and qualitative and ethnographic methods. I currently lead two research projects on precarious work and migrants’ care practices. I am also involved in a Horizon Europe project on irregularised migrants in Europe. 

Tuomas Ojanen

I am a Professor of Constitutional Law and Director for the Doctoral Programme in Law at the Faculty of Law. I am also Member of the Venice Commission, Council of Europe. My main areas of research include Finnish constitutional law, comparative constitutional law, EU law and international human rights law. I have vast experience in equality and anti-discrimination law, including through my 8 years of Chair of the National Non-Discrimination and Equality Tribunal of Finland, and 5 years of membership of the Management Board of the European Agency for Fundamental Rights. 

Teemu Pauha

I am a psychologist and religion scholar, holding a position as a University Lecturer of Islamic Theology at the Faculty of Theology. My research explores the social psychology of religious identity and interreligious relationships, especially in the context of Islam in Europe. Currently, I am working on a Research Council of Finland project examining the sense of safety in religious spaces. My particular focus within the project is on LGBTQI+ Muslims in Finland and Germany. 

Anne Birgitta Pessi

I am a Professor of Religious and Social Studies (UH), and also have a title of a Docent in Wellbeing Sociology (UEF). I currentlly direct two research project teams: one on sense of safety in religious and other sensitive communities as well as in urban spaces, and the other on blood and organ donation motivation. My previous work has centred around topics, e.g., solidarity, altruism, voluntary work, and expriences of the sacred. 

Milka Sormunen

I am a Postdoctoral Researcher of constitutional and European law at the Faculty of Law. My research focuses on the rights and legal status of vulnerable or disadvantaged groups, especially children and migrants. I currently study children’s rights in the context of AI in schools as well as states’ reliance on human rights when justifying their actions. 

Sirpa Wrede

I am a Professor of Sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences. I am Vice Director of the Research Council of Finland Centre of Excellence for Research in Ageing and Care (CoE AgeCare), where I lead the University of Helsinki's Migration, Care, and Ageing (MICA) research team. My research focuses on the dynamics of state and citizenship in various contexts, including health and social care, migration-related diversification, and digitalisation.
