About

DIVSOL is a strategic profile building action at the University of Helsinki funded by the Research Council of Finland (2025–2030). The action brings together existing strands of research on diversity at the university and aims at offering novel insights into the timely questions of diversity.
Aims

DIVSOL forms a vibrant research community dedicated to exploring and understanding diversity from a multitude of perspectives. Our interdisciplinary network assembles researchers across Faculties of Arts, Biological and Environmental Sciences, Educational Sciences, Law, Science, Social Sciences, Theology, and the Swedish School of Social Science, as well as the Helsinki Institute for Social Sciences and Humanities.

At DIVSOL, we focus on:

  • identifying social and environmental inequalities
  • supporting inclusive social policies
  • opening new methodological horizons
  • informing learning and education
  • promoting democratic literacy
  • fostering novel conceptual understandings of diversity.

We have a strategic emphasis on artificial intelligence in scientific research and we aim at developing innovative methods for the research on our focus areas.
