After the publication of the admission results, our student tutors will contact you. You will also be invited to an on-line zoom session to meet the programme director and current students to get more information on the programme and student life while you are considering your decision concerning the offered study place.
You do not need to be anxious about the start of the studies or course enrollments in the fall. During the programme orientation you will get guidance for the planning of your studies, the selection of courses available for you, and enrollment system. You will also receive individual coaching for your personal study plan.
You will have secured seats on the autumn term compulsory courses, so you can start your studies efficiently.
If you do not have any background in cell biology or want to brush up your knowledge, you can prepare for your studies with
B Alberts, D Bray, K Hopkin, A Johnson, J Lewis, M Raff, K Roberts, P Walter. Essential Cell Biology, 5th Edition or later, Garland Science.
Later on, you can take an examination on the contents of the book and get study credits to be included in your degree.
If you want to advance your studies already during the summer, here are some options:
The orientation week (Tue 25 – Fri 28 Aug 2026) starts with Welcome to the Faculty of Medicine -event on 25 Aug at 9.15 in seminar room 3, Biomedicum Helsinki, Haartmaninkatu 8, Helsinki. After this, your programme will continue with obligatory orientation sessions to TRANSMED studies. During the orientation week you can also attend the Helsinki University Check-In Event with your tutors.
The student tutors will be available for your questions. Tutors will also help you in the accommodation to the faculty, the TRANSMED programme and the survival in Helsinki in general.

What do our students think about studying in the TRANSMED? How is student life or housing in Helsinki? You can
International TRANSMED students can apply to the UNITalent Programme. It is designed to support international students in building professional networks in Finland and to gain insight into field specific working life. Students take part by attending monthly group meetings with hosting organisation for a period of three months. During the programme, the University Career Services also provides training in career management skills. The continuation of the programme will be decided in spring 2026.
