The Aleksanteri Institute

The Aleksanteri Institute is a multidisciplinary research community that advances rigorous scholarship, high-quality teaching, and impactful dialogue with the larger public and policymakers. Our research examines the present and historical developments of contemporary societies in Russia, Eastern Europe, and Eurasia, focusing on five broad themes:

  • the environment and climate change
  • security and war
  • politics, ideas, ideologies, institutions
  • societal changes: identities, migration, integration; and
  • knowledge production and information society.

See the University of Helsinki research portal to take a look at recent publications and check out the Institute's website for the latest news and events. The Aleksanteri Institute also has its own publication series Studies in Contemporary Russia published by Routledge.
