The European Union shapes the framework and conditions for research, innovation and education in Europe. EU policies and funding programmes such as Horizon Europe and Erasmus+ have a direct impact on the University of Helsinki’s activities and opportunities.
The University of Helsinki engages actively in EU advocacy to influence the union’s strategic priorities, funding frameworks and policy developments affecting universities. Our advocacy focuses on the European Commission, the European Parliament and national ministries, and is carried out both independently and in cooperation with key European networks and partners.
Through research-based expertise and early engagement in EU policy processes, the University works to strengthen the role of science and higher education in Europe, ensuring supportive conditions for high-quality research, education, and societal impact.
The University of Helsinki’s Brussels office is located within the premises of the Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK), supporting close interaction with key EU stakeholders.
