The 19th Maple Leaf and Eagle Conference in North American Studies, May 18-20, 2022, University of Helsinki, Finland
Landscapes of Democracy and Diversity in North America

From past to present, North America has offered to many individuals and communities an enduring ground for possibilities, competition, and hope. Yet, while the continent is characterized by prosperity and democracy, it is also marred by inequalities and environmental problems. The distinctiveness of North America emerges from a myriad of experiments and experiences, sounds and silences. The upcoming 2022 Maple Leaf and Eagle Conference seeks to address these varied physical, mental, and social landscapes.

For decades, the Maple Leaf and Eagle Conference in North American Studies has offered a dynamic venue for exploring and explaining the phenomenon that is North America. We thrive on being crossdisciplinary and multidisciplinary, welcoming a wide range of academic specialties and research traditions.

We seek submissions on, for instance:

  • Indigenous North America
