Geography united
  • In an increasingly post-truth world hammered by ecological and social crises, the cleavages between people are said to deepen and propagate. New geopolitical spheres are being redrawn with the idea of universalism relegated into utopia. Such a moment in time calls for Research and education to step up and confront problems with engagement and leadership. As geographers, we need to talk openly about a compassionate and thoughtful science – something that surpasses the capabilities of AI to draw from automated sources and digitized data. Research cannot wait to be reached from the outside; it needs to push itself known in order to have an impact for better worlds.
  • The Finnish Geography Days 2025 calls for a “Geography United”. The conference welcomes to rethink the planetary scope of geography, how even the most local phenomena ripple as conceptions of our environment, and how geographers themselves form a community that bridges diverse specialities through spatial understanding. Being united in discussing the impacts of a changing climate, environmental loss, social injustices, urbanism and geopolitical turmoil, for instance, is a function that elevates our discipline and enables geographical analysis to respond to crises, promote sustainability and taking care of nature.
  • In a world that needs more ‘creedal’ geographies that unites differences, we would like to invite you to the Finnish Geography Days 2025 and join the Geography United team to discuss, debate and deliberate the future trajectories of our shared world.
