Master’s Thesis Award competition

Call for nominations!

The Finnish Society for Science and Technology Studies (FSSTS) calls for nominations for its biennial Master’s Thesis Award competition! The prize is awarded to an excellent Master’s Thesis that represents science and technology studies, completed in a Finnish university.

The specific field or language of theses nominated for the award is not restricted, as long as they participate in conversations within the STS field.

  • General criteria: significance of the research question, execution, scientific quality
  • STS-specific criteria: the thesis engages with discussions in the field of science and technology studies. Advancing and applying topical theories, methods or themes is considered a special merit. Insightfulness of the thesis in terms of a broader understanding of the field and new perspectives is also acknowledged.

In order to participate in the competition, the thesis must be accepted by a Finnish university between 1.5.2022–30.4.2024. The applications are submitted via an electronic application. You need a Google account to upload the thesis. In case you do not have one, please contact us outi.koskinen@tuni.fi or terhi.esko@helsinki.fi and we will upload the thesis for you. Applicants do not need to be members of the society.

Deadline for applications is Wednesday 1.5.2024.

A panel of reviewers set by the society will choose the winning thesis. The winner is notified personally, and the prize is awarded during the FSSTS symposium in June 2024.
